Journey to the eastern part of Africa (Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia)

This trip, 25 October - 5 November 2008, was during Home Leave from work. The first half was with a Japanese colleague to Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. The second half was a solo travel. I shortened the trip from the planned 9 November, since I failed to obtain a tourist visa to Ethiopia.
今回のたびは、前半は、ウガンダ、ルワンダ、ケニアに一人の日本人同僚との旅行で、後半はジブチとエチオピアで一人旅。3ヶ月前から、企画をしていて、前半はほぼ企画通りに行ったが、後半はビザ申請が失敗でエチオピアのたびは断念した。
Jalan2 kali ini, dalam rangka liburan Home Leave, tanggal 25 Oktober - 5 November 2008. Di pertengahan pertama, Joel ditemanin seorang teman sekerja Jepang, ke Uganda, Rwanda dan Kenya. Sedang pertengahan kedua, Joel jalan2 dewe ke Djibouti dan Ethiopia. Joel terpaksa memperpendek jadwal jalan2 kali ini gara2 Joel gagal dapetin turis visa ke Ethiopia.

Our first activity was, the famous White Nile Rafting!
The river had several Grade 5 places (it is not allowed to raft on Grade 6) and the famous water fall.

The taste of cold beer, after one thrilling day rafting, surrounded by the sunset view of the river, was yummy yummy!
The highlight of my trip to
Encounter with the gorillas, was my dream since last year.
Though they look scary and dangerous, watching how the Silver Back (alpha male, or the leader male) takes siesta, or how he plays with the babies, gave a kind of warm feeling….
Only one hour the time given for us with the gorilla, it was the best animal encounter I have ever experienced.

The two African giants, the African elephants and the Kilimanjaro, made the perfect combination!
The memory of climbing to the top of the mountain recalled when I saw the white peak in the distance.

Nevertheles, this had given me a new dream of traveling.
Traveling to
フライトの関係で、一番最初にウガンダに入ることにした。
しかも、アフリカの初日で計画したアクティビティは、世界でも有数の難易度が高い川くだり、ホワイトナイルラフティング。
グレード５（ラフティングで最高の難易度、グレード６はやっちゃだめといわれる）の激流が何箇所を乗り越えて、2メートルの滝に落下。
船が転覆して、死ぬ思いをしたけど、スリリングで面白かった！
125米ドルと高かったけど、参加してよかった！
一日のラフティングを終えて、夕焼けの川の景色を楽しみながらのビールは最高！
ルワンダのハイライトというか、この旅のハイライトは、やはりゴリラトレッキング。
一年前からの夢が、可愛いゴリラたちとの出会いが、実現された。
なんてキュートでやさしい生き物。
見た目や体がたくましいシルバーバック（ファミリーリーダーの雄）でも、寝ぼけた姿と、ゴリラ赤ちゃんと遊ぶしぐさをみると、暖かさを感じた。
パーミットだけで、500米ドルもとられたけど、ゴリラたちにあえて、こころいやされた。
ケニアのハイライトは、キリマンジャロ山が見えるアンボセリ国立公園のサファリ。
多くの象たちの群れと、キリマンジャロとの組み合わせ、アフリカの大物たちのコンビネーション！
一年前に、あの頂上にいたんだなと、ちょっと懐かしく思ったりもした ～
ジブチのハイライトは、アッベ湖とアッサル湖への旅と並び、現地で暮らす日本人たちとの出会い。
何もないといわれたり、物価が高い、気候が熱い、ぼったくりが多いといわれる旅行に評判がよくないジブチやけど、出会いとアッベ湖とアッサルこへの旅行に恵まれ、ジブチに来てよかったと思った。
今回の旅で、一番悔しかったのは、エチオピアビザ申請の失望・絶望。
在ケニアの大使館に断られ、在ジブチの大使館に断られ、アディス空港でも入国断られ、なんて厳しい国。
けれど、この苦い経験によって、次の旅の夢が生まれてしまった。
目指せエチオピアの旅だ！
来年の冬に、地球上唯一噴火し続ける火山イルタアーレをはじめ、岩窟教会群のラリベラ、少数民族が多く暮らすオモバレーへの、旅の楽しみができた！
